Rose City Band – earth trip cd/lp

De derde lp van Ripley Johnson’s zomerse zijsprong Rose City Band. Een stuk minder heavy dan Moon Duo/ Wooden Ships. Dat was op de eerste twee lp’s al het geval en op Earth Trip zo mogelijk nog minder. Johnson bracht 2020 grotendeels door ‘één met de natuur’ en dat is te horen op deze uiterst laid-back lp. Heerlijk lome klanken, die linea recta uit de eerste helft van de jaren ’70 komen. ‘On Earth Trip, Johnson colors songs with a country-rock twang and a melancholic, wistful undertone. Themes recur such as pining for summers spent in the company of friends to newer meditations on space, stillness and the splendor of the natural world. Johnson’s laid-back and classically West Coast songs communicate emotions entirely of the moment with both his lyrics, intimate vocal style as well as his elegant elongated guitar lines and astute use of counter-melodies on the pedal steel.’ Luister de plaat op bandcamp.
