Panda Bear – buoys cd/lp

Zesde plaat van Animal Collective gast Noah Lennox, onder de naam Panda Bear. Vooral zijn Tomboy uit 2011 beschouwen we als een klassieker, de Beach Boys wall of sound vertaalt naar deze eeuw. Muziek die afwisselend in kleine golfjes over je tenen kriebelt en je dan weer middels een enorme golf volledig overspoelt. Buoys is vooral een hele rustige en ingetogen Panda Bear plaat. ‘The album features Lennox’s bright, sincere voice along with his beatific approach to melodic structure and vocal phrasing, with miles of space surrounding it, a guitar and a few textured samples fleshing out the dubby sparseness and undercurrent of speaker-limit-pushing sub-bass low-end.’ Helaas zit ie af en toe zo te horen wat te spelen met autotune, nog net niet zo irritant als dat doorgaans is maar hij moet wel oppassen nu. Verder voelt Buoys als een soort bubbeltjesplastic op muziek gezet. Luister op bandcamp.
