Madalitso Band – wasalala cd/lp

Duo uit Malawi, vlak boven Mozambique. Alleen al voor de mooie foto op de hoes zou je dit kopen. Maar gelukkig is de muziek ook mooi. Een duo dat live zo te keer schijnt te gaan dat ze hun eigen instrumenten bouwen voor de zekerheid en stevigheid. En natuurlijk ook omdat ze in eerste instantie geen geld hadden om iets te kopen. ‘Madalitso will make you clap, dance, smile, and rethink everything you thought you knew about African sound and instrumentation.’ Dit is hun tweede plaat, op Bongo Joe Records. We kennen de eerste niet maar deze tweede schijnt nog rauwer te zijn.
‘Wasalala has been kept stripped back and raw, as a tribute to the Madalitso live experience. The home-made one-string slide bass, known locally as Babatone, four string guitar, cow-skin foot drum and two lush voices in harmony are what we want to present, undiluted and in their natural state.’ Goed spul. Luister maar op hun bandcamp.
