Bubblerock is Here To Stay! the British Pop Explosion 1970-73 – v/a 3cd

Mooi 3cd boxje op Cherry Red met ‘bubblerock’, genoemd naar een nummer van Jonathan King zo te zien. Wij hadden er ook nog nooit gehoord als genreterm maar best leuk gevonden. ‘Bubblerock’ lijkt een soort amalgaam te zijn van ordinaire top 40 muziek, bubblegum rock en vroege ‘glamlite’, qua tijd grotendeels uit het niemandsland zo tussen 1970 en 1975. Van David Essex tot Bay City Rollers en The Sweet. Maar vooral ook veel (n)one hit wonders, opvallend vaak met dezelfde mensen achter de schermen. ‘At the dawn of the Seventies, British rock bands were either on the road, playing to the adoring masses or fooling around in hotel rooms with groupies and mud-sharks, or holed up for months on end recording their latest triple-album sets for stoned student hairies.
